Saw in the morning paper that Solon’s Taj Ward committed to the Cincinnati Bearcats last night. Actually received a text last night asking me my thoughts on his commitment. A no-brainer for Coach Fickell.

Taj plays both sides of the ball, but I would begin with him at corner. Possible safety or wide receiver. Excellent athlete with speed. Like that he is long and backpedals well.

First saw him playing corner/wide receiver for Solon his 10th grade year. Liked his CB swagger, but he was a work in progress. Needed to get bigger/stronger, but loved his confidence.

Long. Good hips. Can turn and run. Solid on run support. Good burst. Really like his self-confidence and his CB presence. Guessin 6’0-170, but the frame to get bigger/stronger/faster.

Cousin to Ohio State’s Denzel Ward. See some of the same qualities in Taj that I saw in Denzel.

Saw somewhere where 24/7 rated him the 50th best prospect in Ohio. Silly! There are not 49 recruits in the Ohio Class of 2018 with more potential than Taj Ward.

Really do not get into who is recruiting a prospect, but Michigan State, Boston College, and Kentucky were just some of the schools who were tossing offers.

Taj is a “good get” for Luke Fickell and the UC program. Instate kid. Chance for UC to establish a connection in Cleveland. But most of all, he is very good corner prospect.
