Some Dayton area high school football players have been getting some “big offers,” in the last few weeks. Almighty Alabama has made its presence known. A name to remember is Dawson Martin.
Dawson is an RB/DB for Dayton Belmont HS. Measures 5’11-183(no shoes). Verticaled 31.9 and broad jumped 9’5. Fastest pro shuttle 4.1. Excellent burst – ran 7.03/L-cone. Also threw powerball – 30’6 – good for his size. The key for Dawson is to get faster. Ran a 4.70, but needs to be in low 4.6.
Colleges are looking for him to really improve his overall speed this summer. Tough player. Good leader. Some like him as an RB. Some like him as an inside DB. Really like his intangibles, but must improve speed. I like him on the defensive side.
Teammate Ja’don Furlow has the measureables. Measured 6’1-173 (no shoes). Verticaled 36.6 (the best at either combine). Also ran 4.2/shuttle. Broad jumped- 9’9. Also threw PB – 31’6. Impressive for size. Like the way he competes.
Ja’don is a D1 recruit. Needs to get in front of “decision makers” this summer. Believe that he could line up on either side of the ball.
Springfield’s Quincy Scott (2018) ran a 4.57/40. Also verticaled 31.5. Ran a solid 4.2/shuttle. Also broad jumped 9’5. Really believe that Quincy is just raw. Needs to work on his starts. Should get faster. Liked his Hudl video. Summer will be important for him.
Collin Genslinger from Valley View HS came out from nowhere. Measured 5’8-190 (no shoes). Ran a 4.57/40. Verticaled 34.5. Broad jumped- 9’3. Needs to be more flexible in the hips. Ran 4.34/pro shuttle and 7.27/l-cone. On HUDL, he gets north/south, but needs to improve change of direction. Camps will be important for him.
2018 Dalton Andrews from Eastwood HS ran 4.9/40 and verticaled 34.3. Ran a 4.22/proshuttle. Broad jumped-9’11. Threw PB – 35’1. Measured 6’2-231 (no shoes). Camps will be important, and finding a position. Really like his work ethic.
Springboro’s Joe Poelking (2018) may move to inside to play LB this fall. Measured 6’1-207 (no shoes). Ran solid 4.7, but ran 4.28/shuttle. BJ – 9’9. Also ran 7.30/proshuttle. Needs to be more flexible, but is getting there.
Owen Chafin RB from Spring Valley HS in West Virginia made the trip and put up some solid numbers. Only a sophomore, he will improve. Ran 4.65/40. Verticaled 31.2. Ran 4.4/pro shuttle. Measured 5’9-185. If he can get taller, like him at LB.
A sophomore to watch is Belmont’s RayJee Warden. Measured 6’0-270. Carrying too much weight. One of best PB throws- 36’6. One of the best throws in both combines. Vertical 26.0. Ran 4.75 /shuttle. Tremendous potential, but he has to get much better condition.
Thought that RB Marqies Williams from Fairmont did well for a sophomore. Measured 5’7-159(no shoes), showed some quickness. Ran 4.3/shuttle. Ran 7.30/l-cone. Broad jumped 9’10. One to watch.
Joseph Clifford from John Glenn HS needs to get bigger/stronger. Verticaled 30.1. Ran 4.28/shuttle. Ran 7.2/l-cone.
These are some of the better times/distances. I realize that most of these players have never run some of these test. Also realize that it is March. But I like the effort that they gave.
