Last Saturday morning, I stopped by the D1 Training facility north of Columbus to check in on my good friend, Chuck Gresham. Chuck has QB/REC/DB workouts on early Saturday mornings.
Surprised to see Jayden Rodgers working out, but I really should not have been. Jayden has been focusing on getting better and better, since his 10th grade year. He plays football, basketball, and track at Olentangy Orange High School.
Although he gave up basketball last year to concentrate on track and football, he played all three sports last year.
In track, he just missed winning the OHSAA State 110 hurdles championship. Ran 14.01. Also an excellent high jumper (6’4)and long jumper (21’6). Did nurse a sore hamstring later in season.
At 6’1-170, he plays corner for Orange High School. Like his burst. Long. Can run with receiver. Excellent recovery speed. Good hips. Tough on run support. Could move to an inside DB on the next, but needs a chance at “corner.”
Holding a Ball State offer, but most of the college coaches that I speak with want him to improve his test score.
Jayden got a late start in the classroom, but has worked hard to get better and has. GPA is climbing and is now preparing for ACT.
Jayden always flashes a “big smile,” when I see him. Once he steps inside the white line – all business. I, also, see that in him, when talking about school books and life in general. Always fun to mess with him outside of the lines.
Really believe that Jayden will have more “offers,” by the end of the season. Mainly, because he “gets it’ and “wants it.” Definitely looking to have a “breakout” year.
