After speaking to a group of campers at a Mansfield football camp yesterday, I met Wisconsin commit, Isaiah Mullens, all 6’6-284 of him. Came off as an articulate young man, with college football ability.
Isaiah plays for the Harvest Preparatory School, just outside of Columbus. A smaller school program, but a very good school, with a solid, well coached football program.
Listed as a defensive end(a big DE). I did not see him play in person last year, but checked out his HUDL highlights. Gets off the ball well. Can bend. Changes direction. Really like his athleticism. Plus he is long. Considers himself a DE, but wants what is best for his career.
Needs to get stronger/quicker. Already 6’6-285, but will redefine his body. Like his length. As I told him up front, I could see him being an excellent offensive left tackle at Wisconsin. With the success of OL guys at Wisconsin, his ceiling is high.
Most impressed with his communication skills. Really enjoyed talking about the good and bad of the recruiting process. About the importance of a mom’s support. About advice to younger players about the recruiting process.
Since I have not watched Isaiah compete in person, hard for me to say just how good he is, or how good he can become. First, I believe that he will move to offense. Second, I have not seen him do battle. HUDL is good, but I like to see prospects compete.
Really believe that Isaiah will do well at Wisconsin. Of course, the speed of the game will be faster. The competition will be bigger, stronger, and faster.
With his 6’6-285 frame, his athleticism, his self-confidence, and a super support system at home, Isaiah Mullens will do well for the Badgers. Really glad I had the 10 minute chat with him.
