Last year, Cameron Phillips, WR/CB from Westerville Central, was kind of new kid on the block at the Underclassman Showcase in Massillon. Only a freshman with no previous varsity experience, or HUDL video.
Measured 5’11-166 (no shoes). Long and more of a long strider as well. But he ran a 4.64 hand held. And a one shot 4.31 pro shuttle. Impressive numbers for surface.
At the Showcase, he had a good burst and got separation. Caught the ball well. Best of all – he competed.
Last fall as I watched him play, he caught the ball well, but was equally impressive making returns. Fast, good hips, and made defenders miss. With that said, I actually liked him as a corner. Still do.
This spring Cameron runs on both the 4X100 and the 4X200. Runs a strong leg on both. But due to some lingering hamstring issues is finished for the season.
At this time, he has offers from Illinois and Minnesota. Believe that Illinois likes him as a corner. Minnesota as a WR.
Two things that will really intensify recruiting. Cam carries a 4.0 GPA. Now (guessin) 6’1-175.
For me, I am looking forward to seeing him in camp. Need to see him do more one on one’s from both sides of the ball. Already know what he can do returning punts/kickoffs.
Still young, still growing, and still getting faster. Super attitude. Plus a 4.0 GPA provides many options.
